Grandchildren

Grandchildren are the reason

The sun shines so brightly

Each and every day  --

They teach how to laugh

And to recognize joy

That comes our way  --

They remind us of the reason

That we too were born  --

They are our most precious thoughts

In the rising sun each morn  --

They are the last thought we have

When moon-beams spread

Across the deep blue sky  --

They are the right answer

Every time we ask of life

The question

Why…

They are sweet dreams

That come in the darkness

Of the night  --

They are our greatest joy

And the sweetest memories

Even when they are out of sight  --

When the day comes

That they are grandparents too

They will come to know

What they have brought

To me and you…©

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
