    Poem Commentary

This Poem came about after my hearing the news of a gang land killing, there are so many.

    Growing Up

Two people met, in early days.
At school, in breaktime used to play.
Their future is bright, but only a haze.

The teachers lessons, sometimes a daze.
The lust for good living, instinctive craze.
    Parting schooling, graduation day.
friends for life, they swear to stay.

Too old to tell others, they used to play.
Start looking for work, come what may.
Both make off, their seperate way.

Employment too little, un-employment a lot.
On finding prospective, hit the spot.
A succesful interview, one of them got.
    Remembering schooling, not a lot.

The other fell foul, on the neighborhood plot.
The wrong sort of croud, friends they wher not.
Took any spare dole, for hash or for pot.
One day he was found, for his debts had been shot.

The other content, with family and job he got.
Reads in the paper, with a tear in his eye.
Said darling read this, and started to cry.
I loved that companion, a wonderful guy.
That is no reason, a young man should die.
How can we prevent this, we all must try.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
