    Letting You Go

    Night falling soundlessly--light turning first
      to dappled shadowshapes--twisted and bent
by the demons of heat rising from
                 a shattered broken place within...
then the dark comes like some Great Evil
taking on  bone and flesh...the Light now turning
into jagged monoliths of blackened quartz
and I realize how much I have come to miss
                 the light that is you...
I am cold inside...so cold that memories sound
like a thousand shattering icecicles underfoot--
and sorrow is like a blanket-- threadbare
and full of  ragged holes--that lets the frigid
winds  of regret and broken dreams
caress me like death caresses all things living.
I close my eyes so i can't see me shaking--
but I can still feel it, dry and  bone chilling...
like  dry broken bamboo rustling in the wind...
like autumn leaves brittle and razored
striking the  window pane like angry tears.
Where did the heart of the shattered broken place
finally come to rest and then vanish?
Inside-- to be forged in a rage
against myself alone...for letting you go!

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
