    NightFall

    The night finally fell, and the weight of the dreams
      that came crashing down with it
      nearly ended it all for me...
    The dreams were supposed to be ethereal,
      built of light...music...warmth;
      instead they were vicious, sharp-toothed...
      wrapped in razorwire and ill intent;
        whispering bitter tales in my ear
        as I tossed and turned helplessly,
        biting back the urge to scream at them.
    The dreams were supposed to be comforting,
      gently constructed of soft touches...
      delicate secrets whispered in the night...
      instead they were whirlwinds of agony;
      corialis winds that stripped flesh from bone
      and carved mystic runes
      deep into the sunbleached bone links.
    Time  sweeps me up- a chronological tsunami;
      it raises me upwards into the night sky
      where I can see the entirety of my failures
        in technicolor cosmic glory-
    then crashes me downward to the earth
    where i feel so much more at home.
    In spite of the agony of the fall,
      despite the beauty of the spring...
    and at the very core of it all-
      Visions of you slowly walking away,
      without so much as a glance back...
      looking up briefly at the sound
                           of the Nightfall.

    Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
