    Losing Everything

Can you see what you do to me?

Can’t you feel what you have caused?

Don’t you even care enough to look and see?

    Everything I have lost,

Losing my freedom I could handle,

Losing my spirit could I manage,

    Losing my hope was bearable,

But losing my heart was your advantage,

Can you see the pain in my eyes?

Would you look to see if you could?

Can you even hear my blood-curling cries?

Because honestly I believe you should.

Watching you fall to your knees,

    Begging for forgiveness,

    Whispering "Please",

Is the power over you I deserve to posses,

Losing my freedom I could handle,

Losing my spirit I could manage,

    Losing my hope was bearable,

But losing my heart was your advantage,

My every loss was your greatest victory,

The power you had over my heart was obsessive,

And the overall control you had over me was my ending,

Until now I never realized how much I didn’t need you; Without you I would live.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
