    Manic Mary

Manic Depression is all she can say
    manic depression her moods swing
    that way.
One minute she's up, one minute she's down
    riding her manic merry-go-round.
So, if she doesn't answer her front door
or, her phone it only means please leave
    her alone.
Do not take it personally these manic phases that you see
it's a chemical imbalance inside her brain that makes her
    at a little insane.
The medication for her head makes her feel a little dead
so, she does not take it everyday in hopes that her mania
    will go away
This is why she's up she's down riding her manic
    merry-go-round
Now let her beat to her own drum
    she's not hurting anyone
she's just trying to figure out what her manic depression
    is all about.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
