Poem Commentary

I wrote this for a good friend of mine. His brother was older than him and he was killed when my friend was young...But his memories live on in him...

My Brothers Shadow

Now and then he sits and pretends,
as he talks to the shadow on the wall.
He knows the shadow very well
it comes from heaven where there is no hell.
He gives him advise on whats to be
and holds his heart so close to thee.
As they sit, they talk about the past
He feels as though it's gonna last.
But when the light comes on
the shadow is gone,he knows he is left alone.
So he gathers his thoughts of what just went on...
As he sits to think about what they had said
all the words dance with in his head.
He recalls the smile on his dear brothers face
He longs to feel his warming embrace...
Not now my brother, you can't come here,
This he spoke so very clear...
Just keep it steady and always be ready.
Always treasure what God has sent so true
A wife and two girls that think the world of you.
Look up and see my shinning star,
you can always remember me from right where you are.
Know that I am in a better place,
I have no pain, and the streets here are paved in gold.
So when darkness has fallen down on you,
Do not be scared and blue,
I keep a light burning for you too.
You will feel me near, but not in sight
For is me that holds you all through your nights...
