    Ode To My Best Friend

I didn't know it would be this hard
    like losing a child
    And most people
    they don't understand
    Get over it they say
    life goes on
And if one more person says
    he was just a dog
    I may lose control
    Then God help that person
    for they could never know
    The depth of the wound
    left in my soul
    By the departure of
    my Dog

This poem is a clever obituary with a surprising twist, Phantom ,in the first half of the implies as if he is mourning a human friend. The comes the shock or surprise effect ,in the second stanza.....his friend is his dog! My rating for a somewhat titillating requiem with faultless poetic features is a full 10.

Now you really had me crying, phantom poet. I lost my best buddy this summer. I lost my mother last spring. I feel like Im losing me this winter and that is why I read your dreams poem over and over and over again. I meant to go to church today, the

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
