    one drink

    Staring at each other
    looking straight up
    in the cabinet
    there sits
    ones favorite drink
    get the pop
    and get the booze
    time to party
    or so you think
    mix it up
    and pour it in
    to the basement
    so no one sees
    one sip then two
    standing to sitting
    dizzy then buzzed
    laughing to crying
    yelling to hurting
    your sense's go wild
    you lose your self control
    running upstairs
    and hitting against tables
    to smashing against lights
    the truth comes out
    with things that shouldn't
    cant talk
    cant look
    eyes turn red
    face burns up
    your exhausted
    but cant fall asleep
you sit there and wonder to yourself
    what have i done
    and look how i hurt
    you cant take back
    what is said
    and what is done
    you can say your sorry
    but that's not enough
    its up to you
    to make things right
    now think it through
    it might take time
    but eventually
    everything will fall into place

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
