Redeeming this crumpled mess of me

Hesitating before opening the door, afraid of what I might find,
There lies this crumpled mess of me who has sadly lost her mind.
Surrounded by empty cans and bottles, this crumpled mess of me is deathward bound,
Through sweat, rawness of pain, somehow self-will is poured
out to the ground.
Forced to forsake my beloved enemy, to be saved from untold pain,
Yet having to face cruel reality, where is the gain?
Gone is my comfort, all is unfamiliar, no hope I can see,
It seemed better to hide in ignorance and quietly die in
complacency.
I scream; "so what!!" I reek with self-pity, pride, selfishness,
things I used to survive,
yet I hear a distant voice bursting through this blackness,
reaching, whispering, it is time for you to thrive.
Then you came and gathered this crumpled mess of me out of the blood and mire,
you placed me in your furnace and began cleansing me with your holy fire,
I cry out; "oh God, the fire! It is too painful, too intense" as
the flesh melts from my bones,
and as the blaze subsides, all I see is ash and I feel so
incredibly alone.........................................................................
But as I slowly lift my eyes, the Master amid the ashes
brushes away the residue of the hopelessness left behind,
and I see Him holding in those nail scarred hands so kind,
a glimmering, sparkling me reflecting His glorious light,
"My love, you allowed me to purify, refine and deliver you from the darkness you held onto so tight". Now I can present you to my Father without spot or blemish, my bride soon to be,
clothed in majesty we walk arm in arm and forever we will
reign in glory for all eternity!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
