    Relationships for dummies

I’ve been though two and stood by and watched a few as they sadly crumbled to the ground.

They were all full of hope to start and presumed to astound the rest of the married world with success, despite knowing the odds makers would do their best to create doubt that they’d amount to more than the rest.

So I know a thing or two about the things that stop the smooth growth of relationships. The doubt that grows over blown promises and mows over the lush gardens that grow in our hopes and dreams.

My point is not to be negative but to be honest about the things that give rise to weeds in the garden that can choke us as we intertwine our lives with permanence in mind. They disguise themselves as harmless things, in time would and can bring a rift between us.

Those weeds can be as simple as specific needs that can’t be met. They can be posed by baggage brought from a former life like being someone else’s ex wife. Someone who won’t let things be as they are… now that they’re apart. It could be kids. They do have the ultimate say about who will be the stray you bring into their lives once daddy’s been tossed away. It could be the bills we need to pay or it could be ties that bind us to a life that brought us to where we are today. In each other’s arms.

We only have so much say about how much or how often these things will cause dismay to us and in what way.

The problem therein lies with seeing them for what they are and which ones we allow in our lives.

I’m not sad or dooming us just yet. I just don’t want us to forget about what it is that made us choose each other and how not to lose what it is that makes us so good together.

I think you may be right about how to make this work. It’s to take each day together and make each other know how important each other is in such a way that none could come between us. I worry some days you’ll think I’m a jerk and see things as easier somewhere else.

One day of bad weather will not equal disaster but days without end of rain will make weeds grow faster.

I’m sorry if I made you feel bad. I love you.
