Rise Above It

Today, I am able to stand on my own two feet again
with my head held high and my life back in my hands. To feel that someone else has control of what is yours is exhausting, to say the least. Thinking back on the bad stuff is never good for my soul-to look ahead is all one can do to make each day mean something. I can now breathe deep without feeling anxious-I can love without being afraid that it will be lost. I am no longer scared of what is ahead of me, for I know it will only be better than what is behind me. Who is to say what tomorrow will bring and if it is worth the work we put into it? Only ones self can decide if they are proud of what they have accomplished, and I can honestly lay my head down tonight and know I am a survivor. I have done more than one can hope to do, felt more than one can imagine feeling and felt love from more people than I probably deserve to feel. Today, I am proud to be ME. I have ran from that darkness that used to invade me and I have walked into the sunlight. I have made the ultimate decision to realize that people have their own opinions and all I need to do is RISE ABOVE IT. This is all any one of us can hope to do.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
