Salt

Salt

Salt flavors delicacies of flesh
Making the tasteless savory
Yet, like too much love
Overflowing my capacity to absorb
Forbidding consumption of your vastness...

Salt trails to oceans
Flavors rivers of tears
Bloats floating bodies
Forced to succumb to the terrors
Of their human fears

Salt escapes my core
As temperatures rise
To languish upon my skin
A powdery, residual reminder
Of passionate fires burned within

Salt once measured human worth
And, though traded for gold
Escaped to return
Back into that flesh
For which it once was sold

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
