    Seasons

I remember the glance, the first thought.
The first time I realized that my heart hadn't died.
    I remember the first kiss.
It lingers still on my lips every time I close my eyes.
    As they had then.
I remember the cool night air.
In the dark, on the porch, with you in my arms.
When I became someone but for a moment.
It had been a long time, but it felt good.
You felt good, we felt good toether.
But I was young, hurt, angry, lost.
I hurt you deeply and I am sorry, for you were the one.
The should have, could have, would have been.
    If but for me.
It is not my right but desire come full circle.
A reflection cast onto itself before a mirror in time
I no longer wish to see.
As I see now only the future of what should be,
    what could be...you and me.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
