Silence

Silence

In the lonesome silence of this darkened room,
I have nothing to comfort me but the shadows.
I feel the darkness start to surround me,
And the never ending feeling of gloom.
I think of a time when I was loved,
And when life seemed to have meaning.
I think of what I needed As I pray to the lord above.
I pray that he will grant me,
What I know I deserve.
A man to comfort and hold,
And it fills my heart with glee.
I know that there is no one,
For whom I can only share.
A love to comfort and hold me,
For love is dead and gone.

Strong image of sadness--piercing to the heart-- good write

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
