The race

The race

Waiting at the gate, dirtbike roaring beneath my legs
keeping my cool until the gate is dropped

countdown begins, we all get ready
throttle and clutch in hand, heart beating for the start

blood pumping, heart pounding, body beggining to shake
the gate is dropped and off we go

out of the gate we fly, praying for the holeshot
passing each other, riding our way through the others

we each have a goal, and it is first place
we have to ride to win the race

nineteen bikes begin, but only one winner
the best of the best, the star of the race

heart still pounding, as I pass all the others
finish line in the distance, have to keep pace

have to make the jumps, have to get out of the ruts
a little further now, I'm still in the lead

their gunning for me, they want my place
eighteen bikes roaring, wanting me to fall

finish line up ahead, only twenty feet
stay on the bike, keep my cool

there it is, the finish line
girl right beside me trying to get by

don't let her through, I'm almost there
checkered flag is waving, I cross the line

I've done it, first place
I was the best rider, and I won the race

This is awesome, very good detail and use of the imagionation to describe it like it is happening right before my eyes. Gave a very in depth view of a sport most do not have a clue about, me included LOL.

thankyou!! When I was writing it I was remembering what it feels like to me and it actually got my blood pumping when I read it before posting it. Riding is an amazing sport! Not a lot of people have repect for what I do but all I say to them is...DO IT. It is alot harder than it looks. I am glad that you liked the poem!! Please read others and comment if you wish!!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
