Poem Commentary

Storm Jackson... Bounty hunter.... A hard, solemn man scared of nothing but, his own conscience... He lives one day at a time to try and make peace with his soul for his own sins... He blames those he hunts for making him what he is; one bad hombre' with nothing to live for, and nothing to lose... He's good at what he does and he don't give up until he gets what he came for... People hate him for what he is, and love him for what he does, but they all fear him... If you're his next mark, you're only chance is to throw down or, you won't live to see your day in court... The Storm is coming...

The Storm

The Storm
By Doug Jackson, 071809

Wind’s steady blowin, there's a Storm comin on
It hurts like hell knowin, things that I've done
A long time ago, I gave up my soul
Now, all I got left‘s, try to live with myself
Before I move on

I took some chances, back when I was young
Took the Devil for dances, to live by the gun
Now, I don‘t pretend, I don’t know how this ends
Or, what I’ve become, what’s done is done
Before I move on

Chorus

I don’t worry about tomorrow
Until I’m done with today
Every sunrise here’s just borrowed
From a short life, anyway

Faces they haunt me, from mem’ries I’ve known
And, years that I won’t see, to claim growin’ old
Life’s only promise, is a grave when I’m done
I’ll never outlast, the things from my past
Before I move on

I didn’t choose, everything I done wrong
But, I paid my dues, to keep livin’ on
And, I'm still alive, and I will survive
To lay em’ all down, 6 feet under ground
Before I move on

Chorus

I don’t worry about tomorrow
Until I’m done with today
Every sunrise here’s just borrowed
From a short life, anyway

Here I am breathin, ’stead o’ them I made gone
I know I won’t be forgiven, when my time comes
I’m just a Storm, and I’m packin harm
If this is your day, it’s your time to pay
Before I move on

Bridge

As bad as I am, there’s worse to be found
And, I aim to cross their trail
For all o' their kind, I'm the end of the line
It's no matter if they ever see jail

Chorus

I don’t worry about tomorrow
Until I’m done with today
Every sunrise here’s just borrowed
From a short life, anyway

Outro: Spoken

You always know what you got, with a Storm
And, a whole lot can change, before it moves on
You just hope and pray, that it don’t stay long
And, the dirt gets washed away... by the Storm

Doug, Here's another one I missed. Do you have an mp3 of this one up on the web anyplace? I'd sure like to hear you sing it. Another 10 from me, my friend.

Hey Glenn... It's been a while since I came on here to OP and just now (duh) found your comment... Yes, I made an MP3 of this, not the best recording quality, but it pretty much get's the message and feeling across on this one... Personally, I like it and wanted to get a cut on it but, my producer didn't want to because (in her words) "it's a great song, only... they haven't made the movie yet...!!!" lol... I went with her professional take on it and it wasn't cut... Maybe another time... Hey, go write the book/screenplay and we'll have the title cut all ready to do... lol... Send me an email with your current return addy and I'll send you the MP3 on it... Doug

the storm of many consequences that we all listen to as a poem and a song over and over again.

Thanks Opt... you're right... a good poinient story, movie, poem, song... They're always nice to revisit if we identify with the character(s), the tale, and at least some, of the message we live through with them while we're into it... Thanks for the comment...

I don't know enough about bounty hunters of old, or those of today (Dog, the Bounty Hunter..or is it Dawg, the Bounty Hunter?) but I find it hard to enoble those creatures, although the poem/song seems well written.

Thanks RS... you're right, those types weren't really heros, but what they did, and do now even, is just take out the trash that nobody else wants to do themselves... There's nothing noble about it... They're like, service engineers... You don't want to be "them", but deep down and unspoken, you're glad that there are, "them's"...

Thank you ever so kindly, Stefy... That one was a pretty intense little piece... Tried to depict an old western bounty hunter and his chaotic world; although, aside from the old west time thing, it could easily apply to a new age bounty hunter as well... You may have read, but the song that goes with this is pretty good, and I wanted to have it demo'd last fall, but my producer told me she loved it; only, they haven't made the movie yet, so it was scrubbed for the catalog of songs I had done then... Maybe another time...

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
