    The True Nature of Isolation

    …So strange…

    Whilst sitting behind this pane of glass,

    The world beyond seems so cold and impersonal…

    And transient apparitions of no apparent origin flit past the peripheries of my windshield.

    …So odd…

    That I feel no desire to decipher the messages that those ghosts conceal;

    And that the mystery of who they are or where they have come from remains as such:

    …A mystery…

    Purposefully veiled for my satisfaction…

    …So ironic…

    That those silhouettes of men return my gaze;

    ...And it occurs to me that the musings which seek shelter behind their dim stares must convey the same disdain for involvement in a stranger's affairs...

    …So surreal…

    How this half-inch of icy partition can isolate self from non-self; soul from soul…

    How it possesses the power to negate all opportunity for social interaction;

    And how it seems to endow a man with an uncanny sense of spiritual detachment from his fellows…

    …So true…

    …Yet so sad…
