TODAY'S YOUNGSTER

Today’s youngster
Though young but so bothered
About what the world thinks of him

So hasty in decision making
So suddenly unpredictable in character
So makes me wonder, Can I still vouch for him?

He thinks now he can take care of him
So eager to take steps void of deep thoughts
And so crazy about the world’s definition of ‘happening’

He’s become the advertiser’s Guinea pig
He thinks having the blinks on is so ‘hip’
And listening to rap music makes him ‘the guy’

I fear each time mama flares up over his case
I fear each time I see those he hangs out with
I fear at him crave for so much money especially at his age

He is so consumed with impressing the world first
He cares more about his peers’ respect
He fancies the chick’s impression of him more

Not minding what happens after,
Not minding the risk of being disowned
Nor his older siblings giving up on him, for his many troubles

I only wish he could understand
I really wish he could just spend some time to think
I love him but he hurts me with his ways

Oh! Dear youngster
Life is much more than you picture
It’s much more than the adverts capture

Your decisions today make or mar tomorrow
Peer pressure is but for a while and no good
Chicks embrace and trips is not all that is

Life is wisdom
Life requires deep thought
Life is responsibility

Look beyond now oh youngster
Life is the true you
Life is you without the facades

Snap on to the real world
And build your tomorrow today and now
You are the pillar and the arrow in the warrior’s hands

I feel your fear, just keep sending the message. He'll get it someday.

very well written,, love the message..great piece of work..

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
