    Voyage

    What you do
    To push back loneliness,
    Grasp a little warmth
    And cover up the mess.
    Concealing pain and rage.
    You let no one in.
    Unless you control
    This voyage into sin.
    And you’ll try anything
To distract you from it all.
You’ll get through one more night
You’ll make just one more call.
    Trying to find someone
    That means anything to you
    To help absorb the pain
Of all the things you do.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
