You Belong With Me

You Belong With Me

When we were little people would say,
“You two will end up together one day.”
As years went by and our paths crossed less,
We met other people but some became a mess.
And when my life slowly began to fall apart,
You were right there with me from the start.
How you truly felt about me, I never really knew,
Why I was nervous around you, I didn’t have a clue.
Nevertheless, over the past year a few spoke out,
They could see how I felt without a doubt.
Still I couldn’t see what was right before my eyes,
As we began to hang out, I then saw my own lies.
I’d get ready to see you and butterflies would fly,
Then out of nowhere, I began to get very shy.
Finally, I found the strength to leave that jerk,
After a while, I could tell it wouldn’t work.
When you kissed me before you left that night,
I began to feel guilty but then it felt so right.
I was shocked when you told me you left her,
Again when I learned it was me you did prefer.
Suddenly everything I felt finally became clear,
I knew that what I wanted all along was right here.
The night at the concert, you swept me off my feet,
That is when I knew there was no one else to meet.
The past three months, I cannot explain how I’ve felt,
Many times you have made me just want to melt.
The only thing I wish is that I saw this from the start,
It would have saved a lot of the stress on my heart.
However, those aches and pains are now just a blur,
Because here with you everything is humbler.
Now the only thing I am able to see,
Is how perfectly you belong with me.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
