    A United States Marine

Walking in hot sand, carrying his gear,
He quietly thinks, of family back home.
He hasn't seen them in over a year,
He walks on, his destination unknown.

Getting caught in the enemy's fire,
A Marine falls as he tries to shoot back.
His will to live, a burning desire,
Calling for help, he grabs his buddy's pack.

Marines fire their guns, twenty-one times,
As the fallen Marine is put to rest.
People cry as they recite their last lines,
And pin a gold medal onto his chest.

Now I am weeping in my long black dress,
For a US Marine, who tried his best..

They always do their best for those who don't - they do their duty for failed policy . They are Marines . The best we have .

Words of sorrow penned beautifully in honor of the many similar true stories, or maybe a special one..either way excellent! My Grandfather, brother, and sister all were Marines...A special breed apart!
