    battle

    Battle at Coon Creek.

    Standing on this historical marker

On the trail to Santa Fe, following

the Arkansas river and crossing Coon Creek right here.

And when I close my eyes I see them coming

    200  Comanche’s  and  Osages

And 140 soldiers, fighting a war to stay

Both they believed it was their rights

I feel their pain on both sides

Many off them died or were wounded

But on the end of the battle

There came a lady dressed in scarlet red

Who rode about giving directions about the wounded.

The identity of this angel of mercy

    has remained a mystery.

And now while I’m standing here

and close my eyes, and fight my battle at Coon Creek too

    And I’m also wounded.

But than I also see an angel of mercy

But she is dressed in heavenly blue

I can’t believe and look again

But its true, that lady in blue ,

    Is you.
