    evergreen

You were gone when the leaves fell down.
And now when I look outside
The leaves are coming back again
    What happened in between?
A lot, but nothing, still alone in town.
One thing I know, I hate it that I let you go
Once I asked you to go with me,
You said yes, all before you ,…..said no.
And now I think, why did I let you go?
You brought me happiness, light into dark,
I need you as a tree needs his bark
Using it to transport the life sap to feed his leaves.
I always want to be a tree, but last Fall I lost my leaves
    But now it's Spring
And I want to feel that sap coming in
To feed my leaves and hold it with my limbs
And then when you're on again and I can see
I will ask the Lord to turn me into an evergreen tree.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
