    Cherish

A small lonely gray rock, standing amidst a field of daisies. A playfull breeze sends chills through each stalk.

Feeling warmth from the benevolent sun, they smile at the chance to express joy.

To imagine for a second what a single cloud could do... the fragile dreams sliced to a thousand tiny pieces, every petal torn from it's stalk and crushed in the dirt below.

All that would remain, is the rock.

Cold, gray, unfeeling, and yet it survives.

But each gentle, warm flower, full of love...perishes.

I love this poem! When I was a young girl I spent hours lying in the tall grass in a field by my house. My favorite spot was next to a rock and I would lie in the tall grass watching, feeling and experiencing everything around me.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
