    The Gift

When first our eyes had each other met, we were oh so young, newly primal and eager.

The year was spent with a procession of feelings, some meaningfull, some less than merely meager.

Our lust was such that we never let grow the seeds of a passionate life. Too many men to play with you, it ended deep in strife.

Years have passed, we all have come to know our garbled ways. The universe has granted us another chance, but we know not for how many days.

We now are older, wiser, maybe even sage. I know one truth, my heart still lept, when our eyes engaged.

The time we spend together will touch our hearts and souls, I long to hold you through the night, however our fate unfolds.

I know your pain, I know your fears, for I share them too. The only time all they dissolve, is at night when I'm holding you.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
