Death Match

My duty brings me to love
but love leads me to duty
I am trapped and undecided I stand.

Needed at every stroke
and missed at every corner
I am fighting with myself and every person who loves me.

I can always find a hole to fit in
nestle down deep and make myself a home
But I long to find a whole that I can call my own.

The devil and The angel - they both hold a place for me
and in those arms I can feel safe
because, truthfully, I belong to them both

I can see both lives unfold before me
and who is to say which one will be my undoing
or my sweet, uncompromising satisfaction

But I'm leaning
and leaning
and striding towards my own destruction.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
