Designing Rainbows

Designing Rainbows

A rainbow slid across the sky

In vibrant smears of color.

We stood staring, asking why

The Lord sent it richer, fuller

Unbowed into the sun soaked

Noon day firmament for us

To admire His skill unyoked

By any preset form that we

May have imagined unbroken.

It did not hang in limpid curves

But swept across the clouds

Sending shivers through our nerves

Leaving us to think out loud

What magic lays within His grasp

That He might show us such joy

In unleashed hues amassed

By a painter in a vaunted ploy

To render all who see unspoken.

Gazing with unbridled delight

At such a treasure to behold

Mesmerized by the heavenly sight

The Rainbow ranks bright and bold

Ran rampant with the winds on high

To bring the waves of tumbling tints

Magnifying the mixture in the sky

With whirlpools of tempera paints

Splashed haphazard across the heavens.

Making our world more wondrous

Restoring our faith his endeavor.

A new promise to all who believe

We will hold his attention forever.
