    Shades of Spring

    Bright, beautiful, blue sky

    Sunshine yellow, shadow shy

    Crystalline clear morning dews

Gray evening damps in subtle hues

Deeply scented rainbow days of wandering.

New buds bursting on magnolia trees

    Luscious green leaves breaking free

    Manicured borders of Kentucky grass

Dainty pastel tops on girls that pass

Breathless, gentleness of season, too fleeting.

    Expanding days and dwindling nights

Return of water birds and woodland sprites

Children cantering on new mown lawn

New birth of lamb, calf, kid and fawn

Earth being tilled for a new year of planting.

Apricot tones of sky at break of day

Waves of pink and blue as it fades away

The sun rules each turn of the seasons

We enjoy the change, no need of reasons

We revel most the approach of renewed spring.
