First Knight

    First Knight

I stare at you from my side of the bed

I remember back when we first met

I cannot help but smile with pride

I remember what we first said

From those words my heart was set

Through the years, I have never had the love slide

I do not know if it was love at first sight

But my soul was filled with delight

And I just wanted to be your First knight

Oh! How we danced that night away

I remember that smile in your eyes

Who knew that smile in your eyes?

Who knew that the smile would last?

I remember like it was yesterday

With you, my heart always lies

I am happy we did not go too fast

I can stare at you sleep all night

All nestled there, it is quite a sight

I will stand here by you as your First Knight

When I look at you, the body still chimes

I have to thank someone from above

For getting us through the hard times

    And giving us everlasting love

For giving me the ongoing pleasure

    Of guarding my personal treasure

Your gaze still sets me afire

The blaze that goes on every night

For you, I have nothing but pure desire

Enough to give a mortal man a fright

But not I; I will never tire

    Of being your First Knight

I know it has been years since my passing

But I am still here night after night

You, my princess, I am still guarding

Protecting you with all my might

Because the love I have is everlasting

It is always my honour to be your First Knight

Yeah, you are a very lucky guy, so is she. You've got to thank the Creator a thousand times for the peace of mind he has given you.

    thank u. very kind words

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
