Will We Forget?
Will We Forget
Heroes are people just like you and me
Bravery put into life efforts they do not see
Our heroes believe anyone would do what they do
They are the unselfish ones that sit next to you
When called on, duty comes first
Standing in the line of fire is their thirst
They went too far away lands to fight
So their sons, daughters, and wives could sleep well at night
When our heroes come home, they do so with honour
Their quiet heroism has made us grow fonder
For you and their country, they will say is why they went
And we will never know the lonely hours our heroes spent
They never complain of restless sleep
Of their nightmares we do not here a peep
Never a word on how our heroes had it hard
As in their silence, they were our guard
We will never know what our heroes have been through
The stories they have held on to cannot be true
Fox holes and trenches built for one
Some are burials for some mother’s son
Defending us, living with loneliness
While we were home, living with tenderness
Their weary bodies carrying our weight
While the enemy is trying to decide our fate
Their presence, we should celebrate
As they are the guardians of our gate
The efforts not done for fame
We will never know their name
As time does take away from our mind
Do we say enough of their kind?
For all our heroes have done for us without regret
On their day, will we remember or will we forget
