    From A Mother

To have a daughter means happiness and love,
    to a mother.
To have a beautiful, special, loving daughter means the world,
    to a mother.
To be able to develop a special bond with her, means more,
    to a mother.
To have long talks and develop a trust means even more,
    to a mother.

When her daughter is young she has hopes and dreams for her,
    as her mother.
When her daughter gets older she goes her own way,
    like her mother.
When her daughter dates she begins to worry,
    as her mother.
When her daughter has children and needs advice she will call,
    her mother.

No matter her age or what she does she will always be loved,
    by her mother.
Through the years, tears, hurt, and laughter, she will be there
    as her mother.
I hope the message gets through to you, this is out of love,
    as your mother.
You should know that to have you love felt for you, it is an honor,
    to be your mother.

You should know I love you and want what is best for you,
    as your mother.
The last thing is "I thank God everyday for giving me the
    pleasure of being your mother".

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
