    My Child

    My Child

My child, when I first laid eyes on you,
I knew I had a very precious gift.
You were so tiny and helpless in my arms,
I was full of love and a lot of fears.
I was worried about being a good mother.
I wanted everything to be perfect for you.
As you grew, so did all my fears.
I watched with wonder as you walked.
I loved to hear you when you talked.
Now with passing year you change.
I realize I can never be perfect in raising you.
I hope I show you the important things.
Like love, understanding, patience and care.
Life was much easier when you were little.
However, as you grow older I love you more.
With every passing day you get wiser.
I see your kindness, tenderness, love and cheer.
You are clever, smart, tough and wise.
You are all I had hoped for and more.
As you grow, you always keep me on my toes.
I know you must follow your dreams.
My only wish for you, is for you to always be happy.
    If nothing else, there is something you must know;
I love you no matter where you go or what you do.
Last thing I want to say is "Thank you, for just being you".

Beautiful poem! To which child are you refering, too??

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
