God's Plan for Fathers

Poem Commentary

My son has lupus and has been having a tough time lately with pain and his hair falling out. He may have to have chemo or even dialysis.  He is such a wonderful father and I wanted to write something for him for Father's day.

God's Plan for Fathers

This Father's Day I find myself pondering
what to be a Father means.
Do we choose the type of Father we become,
or is it determined by our genes?
Long ago, a wise friend once told me,
Some parents God gives to show us how to be.
Othere He gives so we can see what not to do,
But it is His choice, not ours,
which ones He gives to me and you.

It's not always easy for you;
your health won't let you do some things.
But you face each day as it comes
with whatever hadship that day brings.
My heart breaks to watch you hurt
and know there's nothing I can give
to ease your pain or make your life
less of a struggle for you to live.
Sometimes it's hard for us
to comprehend or understand
what God has in mind for us
or how we fit into His plan.
but of all the things I don't know,
one thing I know for sure is true.
God gave your son the best father he could have
when He decided to give him you.

PS. I will pray for your son. And I think his dad is remarkable. No one could ask for much, but knowing their parents are there no matter what!

My mother is the one who wrote this poem and I am her daughter.I wish that our father was as remarkable as you think but in truth our mother is the only one who has even been in me amd my brother's life.

Wow. I know it must hurt to see someone you love hurt like this. This is a great poem. I'll be praying for your son. God bless.

thanks again for your comments about all my poems. I have never gotten feedback before so it feels really good to know others enjoy them. I appreciate your prayers for both my children.

Okay... this is extremely genuine. I've never read a poem that is so spread out, yet still has room for rhyming. This goes beyond amazing. I hope it was submitted! I give this a 10.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I appreciate it so much. I did submit it.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
