    Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem the day after the last presidential election.  I hesitated to post it because I didn't want to offend any one.  Please know that is not my intention and I certainly respect anyone's right to disagree.  But this is how I felt on that day after the election and my heart is even heavier today as I see the path we are heading down.

Today, America, I cry for you

Today, America, I cry for you.
My beloved land, the red, white and blue.
I fear the country I love is gone, never to return.
For the mistakes of the past
and of others we have failed to learn.
It feels like we've reached a brand new low,
though God's word says nothing under the sun is new.
My heart is broken and heavy and so-
For today, America, I cry for you.

We've taken God from so many things
and now we will face the judgment that brings.
The killing of the innocent, the acceptance of lifestyles
that God detests and "an abomination" calls.
We refuse to see that all thru history,
the nation that turns from God is a nation that falls.

Everything within me wants to scream,
"America, how long will God continue
to on thee shed His grace and hold back His wrath,
when we continue to spit in His face and
head down the wrong, sinful path?"
    We have become a people
who do what's right in our own eyes.
We are so blind we cannot see
that our future in His hands lies.

Tomorrow, I'll pray for my country
and for her new leader to do what's right.
It will not be easy but it's what God tells us to do.
I will still have hope that we'll turn back
to Him and see the light.
But for today, America, Today I cry for you
