My Hero, My Daughter

Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem to my daughter for her graduation from a 2 year college that took her 4 years.  She has had fibromyalgia since she was 8 and we have not been able to find anything that helps her much.  She also has to deal with so many people not believing her since she looks normal.  I am constantly searching for something to help her and she tells me she wishes she had a cape for me because I am her super hero.  But I realize that she is the real hero.

My Hero, My Daughter

Each day you must face life's struggles
and endure your body's pain,
not knowing each moment
if the batttle you will lose or gain.
Your verse from the Bible
says this world He has overcome.
He is the only One
your strength and hope come from.
All I can do is love you
and be your mother and your friend.
But I cannot make your suffering less
or bring it to an end.
If I could take it all away by taking it
on myself or giving my life, I'd do it.
But only God can choose to end your pain
or to help you through it.

So much you have accomplished already
and this graduation is just a start.
Many more triumphs are ahead
but don't let anything change your heart.
Don't let your will be crushed
by what others may do or say.
Just know that within you lies
the courage to face each new day.
No matter what life may bring,
this promise I make you now.
Together with God's help,
we will endure and conquer somehow.
I will never give up on you
and you can be sure I'll never doubt you.
I can't even imagine how empty
my life would be without you.
You say I am you hero
and a cape to me you'd like to give.
But the truth is you are my hero
and you will be as long as I live.

This is the poem that my mother wrote about me. I was so thrilled when she told me that she was going to put it up on this website. The way that my mother wrote this poem to me touched my heart so much and knowing that I have a mother like her who is so good and wonderful helps me to keep going even when my pain is so hard for me to bare. She is my best friend, my confidant, and the one that I trust most in life and with this poem she put so much of me into it which I never thought she would be able to do.

Wow. Another great poem. I know your daughter is a lucky girl to have a mother like you to help her.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.
