Masks
To protect myself, or the others?
I am dying, writing within my skin
They see a smile
Hear a laugh, make it believable

Eyes
The true windows of the soul
Always avoided by the weak
The uncaring
Never shielded by the masks we wear
Hardly ever truly examined
No would venture my way otherwise

Fake it
I never belonged anyway
Sacrifice some sanity to please them
Make them comfortable instead
Depth and apathy scare the masses
Don't frighten the sheep

Screaming
Never aloud
Never allowed
The silence is deadening
The voices, unreal
Screaming, Pleading, Suffering

Just keep smiling

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
