    I Often Wonder

Looking back there's been a lot of years
Filling up my past with some laughter and some tears
While I've come so far on this life's road
I need to stop and take a look figure out which way to go

Seems to me there's echoes of a train
From New York to Atlanta and on out to L.A.
It's been so long but I still need to know
When you're in love sometimes you need to let go

We still dance to the tune of some old song
I hear you managed well I knew you'd get along
So I convinced myself that's the way love goes
Living in the past I need to find which way to go

I have learned there's wisdom in a smile
I meant to call or write but time slips by like miles
And this verse is here just to let you know
Thinking of my first love I forgot which way to go

I've heard the bells ring in the steeples of New England
And marveled at the worth of Southern Comfort
My eyes tear up in these hazy left coast days
Why I stay out here I often wonder
    I often wonder
