I'd Rather

I'd Rather

I’d rather share the insecurity and uncertain destiny of our love, then the safe harbor of another port.

I’d rather live this way, then imprisoned by the compromises of living under the illusion of permanence.

I choose the inconsistency of a true love over apparent safety and dependability of a conventional home.

I choose to live without the certainty of your response than to live paralyzed by fear of being alone.

For life is anything but fixed anyhow.

In a moment’s notice everything can change, everything can collapse, everything can vanish.

So, I’d rather rely on my inner truth that assures me things are as they should and that love can only exist outside the confines of our minds.

Perhaps it is the insecure nature of our love that allows it to remain pure.

And, I’d rather live with the uncertainty of us than to live with the inner sense that my soul is not guiding my steps, but rather my rationale.

For the concept of security goes against the very nature of life; creating an obstruction in its harmonious flow, like a dam impeding the rush of the river.

For love, like this wild river commands constant movement so that it may engorge the shores along its path; and that very essence of uncertainty is what makes this river real, alive, vital and yet illusive.

So most choose to sacrifice all the aliveness, passion, pureness and innocence of love for a promise that attempts to guarantee a secure and reliable future which can only survive through the vehicle of the mind.

And in the battle between love and security, love’s weapon is the majesty and beauty of the present moment, while security resorts to its most powerful weapon, fear; a fear that threatens with a sense of lack, abandonment, loneliness, and the promise of future pain and isolation.

Love is not an object to be possessed, revered and displayed in a glass case. It cannot be retained, controlled or guarded with safes and padlocks.

Love can only exist if it remains free, unchained. Love can only grow where it is free to flow, free to transform itself without boundaries designed to keep it routine and uniform.

So it seems important to acknowledge this paradox and to see, know and experience that much like enlightenment, love is not attained through time, through the assurance of its future, but it can only be felt in this moment without allowing fear to push you away from it and force you to choose the illusion of future security.

For what is real can never cease to be as long as it remains in flux inside our hearts rather than a fixed concept contained by our intellect.

all can change , and will, yet love is the strongest power on earth, that keeps the fear in check, that guides us on our journey of the heart, your insight is great as is your writing

Thank you for that interesting point of view...journey of the heart is a powerful yet full of surprises...

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
