    just for today

I dealt in my sleep and bargained in death,
with cases of beer each night
two at a timefrom cold, sweating bottles.
I made arrangements each night for a punt sized journey
I'm the queen of this condition and a expert on this trip,
and now they say I'm an alcoholic.

Yes, I admit it has become a bit of a habit
I now stand at the turning point.
I now take the time to think.
I got Bob and Lori to the west
I got Peter and Luara to the east
I got God to the north
The old me is gone and put away.
I will be alright just for today.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
