Justice Failed

Justice Failed

I sit here mourning my childlike belief
The one that tells you justice will prevail
Do good, be good, and you will find relief
Today, Justice, to me did fail

Looking deep inside I find an empty gaping hole
It didnt just swallow my heart
But rather in its entirety, my soul
As my hopes were torn apart

I am wondering why I fought to survive
Stayed so brave all these years
To stay strong and alive
Through all the pain and tears

Lies apparently take precedence of truth
Evil overturned good
Why was I not taught this in my youth
I stuck to honesty as I thought that I should

Why do people tell you they will be there
Then disappear far from sight
I wonder did they ever care
Like I once thought they might

My perservance has weakened a ton
My zest for life, a thing of the past
For the manipulative have won
My strength gone at last

Hope is still stirring
Only that this life will soon be done
No more pain of enduring
Boy does Heaven sound like so much more fun

Ive lost this battle
Between right and wrong
Im a cowgirl fallen from her sattle
A sad sad country song

Ive decided that its not worth the fight
I thought self pity, but now I know its reality
At the end of the tunnel, I found no light
To some, just one more casuality, one more fatality

I can rest in knowing I did one thing right
I told the truth, I held my head up high
I put up an honest fight
Justice failed, I failed, and now I cry.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.
