    Poem Commentary

I was watching a show an old show and on it a girl was going to die. Someone cared enough to give her something to look forward to. To help her through the final days. He did not offer her what God makes available, because that is not what the show is about. But it just brought a tear to my eye because of the tenderness in his heart to make her last days worth living.

    Life as we know it

    Life as we know it

This poem is written with tears in my eyes

Because of how short life is and how vast the skies

A fleeting moment as of a breath of air

Is how things are, yet we still do not care

For truth is around us yes at every corner

Yet as we grow things get no warmer

Unless we stand and do not fall

For God knows you, did you answer His call?

Eternal life is what He has for each and everyone

When we believed it is everlasting, now we are His son’s

For a time came when we accepted Him

But He knew this from the beginning that we would surely win

He has seen everything from beginning to end

And upon this truth He will not bend

For this we know that God cannot lie

It is written in the stars; way up in the sky

It is up to us for we have our own minds

To believe and walk as the path before us unwinds

For the steps we take are our very own

They become more sure footed as we have grown

Fears fall away as we learn and grow

Just like the rain comes and it turns to snow

Temperatures rise and fall just as thoughts change

We can live or die, doesn’t that seem strange?

It is up to us, yes each and everyone

To believe or not, to rise or fall, or to be God’s son

His only begotten took the chance and obeyed from the heart

Now it is up to us Romans 10:9, 10 is the place to start

Lovely! It reminded me of times in grade school, I'd be washing my hands and look in the mirror and think "isn't it strange I'm alive?". Not that I was current and I could feel and think but that these thoughts were contained in a body in a life somewhere. Lucky to be given the gift of life! Good work!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
