    Light and dark

     The sun sets, and as the night paints everything black my soul cries.
    Fear has drifted off with days past and sorrow sets in.
    Devouring my last hope.
    Insanity would be a welcome friend for sanity is an unwelcome foe.
    I am aware of the shadows calling out to me.
    The harbinger's of despair beckon my fall.
    Testing my own resolve.
    Alone and weary i stumble but, do not fall.
    For a light breaks from the night sky and sparks my drive to hold on.
    As dawn washes over every darkened corner, my soul smiles for peace is here........until night falls and the struggle continues on.....................

    I like this poem, Melissa. I think you accurately described your thoughts and emotions here, so that the reader can actually feel what you're going through, which is the entire purpose of poetry. Well done!

    This is my kind of struggle. I like how you put the line -insanity would be a welcome friend for sanity is an unwelcome foe- sometimes we need to get a little crazy to see a different perspective of things. Light and dark....it is a tormenting existence, but it makes for such beautiful writing. It is my favorite thing to write about. I enjoyed the journey.
