This poem is dedicated to all the women who have paid the ultimate price for freedom...in service to our country.

My Angel Walked Before Me In This Soldier Song

I woke up on the morn, of the day she would depart;

with a weird kind of feeling in my chest...

I knew she would leave with a piece of my heart;

but the pain I could not even guess

In dark I could see how the path lay before me;

and light at the end was so clear...

For darkness of life in the brightest of day;

sought the life I had once held so dear

Her steps went unchallenged by man or by beast;

and earth paved the way for her love...

And love was the message she poured from her heart;

reminiscent of that from above

My angel left this world behind, and paved my way ahead...

she made the ultimate sacrifice; for the soldiers that she led

Now pain has entered, where once was not;

the night gone replaced by the light...

My angel has walked---this path before me;

her semblance now brightens my plight

I've walked this land in utter darkness;

asleep with no presence of mind...

Recruited by country, and love of our lives;

I left what was home far behind

Who would have thought I'd ever be here;

in land where death lurks so near...

My angel, she walked this path before me;

and chained the arms of fear

My angel left this world behind, and paved my way ahead...

she made the ultimate sacrifice;

for the soldiers that she led

Each step I took was preordained;

and etched in the words of an order...

My angel knew then what none had seen;

as I crossed the Afghan border

With mountains now surrounding us all;

in land convenient for foe...

Who's presence known in a soldier's dream;

that angels---only show

She whispered these words to heart and mind;

"I---will lead your way"...

Then stepped out in front with the speed of a cat;

without a moments delay.

My angel walked before me;

and saved my life that day...

but what is life without her;

though I see her as I pray.

My angel left this world behind, and paved my way ahead...

she made the ultimate sacrifice;

for the soldiers that she led.

Grasping her closer than breath to the wind;

I cling to her life within...

but try as I might, to keep her heart close;

life fading before pain begin.

My angel walked before me;

so that I may now grow strong...

She left me here with memories...

so I made this soldier song.

My angel left this world behind, and paved my way ahead...

she made the ultimate sacrifice;

for the soldiers that she led.

I'm so proud of you babe. You can really write. Job well done!

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
