Self-condemnation

Self-condemnation

When a good man falls,

He is full of shame.

Guilt overwhelms him,

And he may never be the same.

The torment of his mind,

Leads to trouble in his heart.

Longs for forgiveness,

Not allowing it to start.

Protecting his image,

We won’t tell a soul.

Punishing himself,

He cannot let it show.

Afraid of his failure,

He looses the will to try.

He prays for salvation,

While pleading to die.

One by one the sorrows,

Begin to overtake his life.

He searches out the reasons,

Blinded by inner strife.

Restoration seems impossible,

With no logical explanation.

His spirit is held hostage,

By self-condemnation.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
