Alone in my car
Or washing the dishes
Or in the shower
Alone with my thoughts
I speak them aloud…
Thoughts that should always
Stay quiet
In my head
And my head alone.

Then…
A moment of weakness
Inhibitions down
The pressure builds
The words come out.
No longer in my head.
No longer alone.

Words hanging in the air
Like fog
Like mushroom clouds.
Words that
Thinking back
I would never say aloud
Should never say aloud.

Words that tell the story
Of me
Words that tell the fear
I carry
Words that tell the anxiety
I try to push down

And once they’re out there
They never come back
They never get unsaid
They are no longer quiet
Not in my head alone

Sharing is fine for candy or toys
But not necessarily
For thoughts.

lol. My partner always asks who I'm talking to or what i'm saying in the shower. Best to wait till everyones gone. I like how you expressed such a common moment in such a poetic way. Thanks.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
