    Soldier

     You said a soldier you wanted to be
    Your life you will give up....for others to live free
    You left for places and parts unknown
    In your heart of hearts... will you ever be able to call anywhere home?
    Pain and suffering aplenty you will see
    While life goes on... for your friends and family
    Some people have a hard time understanding where your at
    While other's would truly tip you their hat
    So hard at times...to grasp the life you chose to lead

    You told me ... you would lay down your life for your fellow man
    A heart like yours is hard to understand
    But in the end..... this I know
    I will be proud of you..... no matter where you go
    Life is about sacrifice and lesson's untold
    Some of them hard
    Some of them old

    I wonder sometimes ... who planted that first seed?
    When you were a child ... conflict was something that caused you pain
    Does the life you live now,make your past,feel like its not been in vain
    So many question's I've wanted to ask
    I think as a mother .....I have always wanted to grasp
    Was it me that caused you to choose this world of strife
    Or ......only the circumstances of your life?

    im a veteran myself. I served in Iraq 3 seperate tours. I know my mother probably asked a lot of these same questions herself. Your poem makes me wonder what it was like for her when i was overseas. beautiful. thanks for sharing

    well done. I like how much it stresses this is the point of view from a mother. I got family in the military so i feel your pain. He's in my prayers. Thanks for sharing

    You are too kind,and just yesterday I was told by my son that he will leave again for Iraq in a short while.My poetry and art have saved me from so many moments such as these.Blessings to you.
