Soldier

Soldier

I walk down a dirt road and I picture meeting him at the end of it
I'll grab his hand and he will comfort my aching feet
My mind he will ease and caress my soul
Taking my mind off my previous battle and sorrowful defeat
A speech awaits for me, ready to spill from his mouth
I yearn to hear his words of reassurance and affirmation
He gently wipes the tears from my eyes as the flow like rivers
He's my refuge in any trial and brutal situation
My soldier all geared up to take on this next round for me
I've been beaten and torn apart, weary from this war i lost
But he's much stronger, as he holds our tribulations on his back
Facing his enemies head on not giving thought to the cost
So I walk this dirt road to meet my hero soldier at the battle line
Scared and trembling, cold and wet, tired and worn out to the bone
His arms are open for me, to massage away the pain in my heart
His shoulders are my resting place as he carries me home

This is a truly great poem....

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
