    Sweetest Summer

    That was the summer
    He walked into my life.
That was the happiest time I had known.
    I had laughter;
    I had fun.
And in his eyes, I was beautiful.
In my heart, I was, too.

    We were lovers -
    Briefly,
    But endlessly.
    Too young to understand
    What that even means.
    To be
    Forever united,
    For a short,
    Short summer.

    That was the summer
He walked into and out of my life.
That was the summer I felt new.
    Loving freely,
    Needing unashamedly.

    The end of the summer,
I had to face the truth.
    Love has a cost, and
    True love comes with pain.

    I felt it the day
    My daughter was born.
That was the day she fell into my life,
And it was the happiest, saddest day
    I had ever known,
For with her birth, was the end of my summers
    As a carefree young girl.
    And the beginning
    Of my life
    As a loving, single mom.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.
