The Broken Heart

The Broken Heart

By Alexis Polykarpov

A 2009 poem

The heart is loving

The heart is feeling

The heart is caring

The heart is love

People come close to you

My family I love

People find true love

Which I thought you were

I thought I was your princess

I thought it was a fairy tale

But now, I ask …

Do you love me?

I do not want to be heart broken ever again

So tell me now

I do not want to be hurt

No broken hearts again

Or it’s the end

I thought you were a prince

I was the princess

But was meant to be?

I was going to cry today just looking at you

I’m in love

Someone told me you didn’t love me

Should I believe them?

Is it true?

I love you

The heart wants what the heart wants, and I don’t want to cry

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
